Sausage and Apple Stuffing recipe

This is a great hearty stuffing recipe. It almost constitutes as another main dish! The savory Italian herb sausage goes great with fresh apples and the tender chunks of bread carry it all to your mouth! Yum. Serves 6.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf stale bread, cut into bite size pieces*
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped small
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped small
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 apple, cored and chopped
  • 2 cups turkey or chicken stock

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. In a medium sauce pan heat the butter over medium high heat until melted. Add the sausage and cook until brown, about 8 minutes.

  3. Add the onion and celery, cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

  4. Add the garlic and apple, cook until garlic is fragrant, about 3 minutes.

  5. Add the stock and cook until warm.

  6. Place the bread in a large bowl and pour the warm stock over. Add the parsley and toss with a spoon until combined.

  7. Place in a 9x13 baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes.

  8. Uncover and bake another 10 minutes or until browned and crisp on top.

You can use any type of bread for this recipe, and it does not really have to be stale although you made need to add less stock if it is fresh. You could also use a large bag of the stuffing cubes.
