Classic Herb Stuffing recipe
This is the all-from-scratch classic stuffing that is perfect for use on Thanksgiving. It has tender savory chunks of bread combined with the comforting flavor of all the fall herbs. You can either stuff it inside of a turkey or bake it in a dish according to the directions below. Serves 6.
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf stale bread*, cut into bite size pieces
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, chopped small
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 stalks celery, chopped small
- 1 tablespoon dried rubbed sage
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons celery salt
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 cups turkey or chicken stock
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Directions:
In a medium saute pan heat the butter over medium high heat. Add the onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the celery and garlic, cook until the celery is soft and garlic is fragrant, about 6 minutes.
Add the dried herbs, garlic and onion powder, salt and pepper, and stock. Heat until warm.
Place the bread into a large bowl and pour the warm vegetable/stock mixture over. Add the parsley and toss with a spoon until combined and bread is moist.
Place the stuffing into a 9x13 baking pan and cover with foil. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Uncover and cook another 10 minutes or until the top is lightly brown and crisp.
